Connecting to an ad hoc wifi network is only a problem with Windoze 8 and 10. Starting with Windoze 8, Microsoft does not allow linking to an ad hoc wifi network without going into the command line and typing a command-line sequence that overrides certain default system parameters. The easiest solution is to use Windoze 7 or XP Pro. These earlier systems allow ad hoc wifi connections with no problems. I use Windoze 7 on my Mac bootcamp partition and emulate Windoze XP Pro through Parallels. Whichever I choose to run during an astronomy session at the scope, I'm covered. I don't have any Android devices, so I have no experience with this hardware. Dave Gary

Right. Never used an iPad or iPhone so didn't know. There seems to be a lot of inexpensive uart to wifi modules on ebay. Don't know if that's helpful. On 2015-10-18 19:45, Joel Stucki wrote:
I seem to be reading a lot that Android has an easier time with this. IOS versions of SkySafari do not use Bluetooth because IOS does not allow direct access to BT devices. So the connection is a bit more complicated having to connect over an ad hoc wifi network. I am pondering options. Thanks for the offer of help. I may ping you off list.
