It sounds like you are keeping good tabs on the Kannarraville location. I've met Brent, very nice, knowledgeable man, does star parties at Cedar Breaks. He is a friend of Lowell Lyons. Maybe we or Lowell (whatever) can contact him directly and he will find a "special" location - away from the crowds but near a port-a-pottie for us? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Patrick Wiggins" <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, September 8, 2011 12:39:51 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Annular ecclipse On 08 Sep 2011, at 00:25, jcarman6@q.com wrote:
Why don't you Google earth it?
Did that. That long stretch of highway that follows the centerline out of Newcastle looks promising on Google Earth but there are mountains in that direction too. Brent Sorensen with SUU is advising the folks in Cedar and Kanarraville. There was a meeting yesterday specifically for the eclipse with him, the mayor of Kanarraville, the Tourist Bureau, sheriff’s office, BLM, EMS and, oh yes, sanitation <g>. So it sounds like they've got things covered. Regarding the meeting, they sent me a copy of the agenda entitle "2012 Annular Solar Eclipse meeting". My favorite line read: "Basic Eclipse Information (and why should Kanarraville and Iron County care!)"
You don't have to be right in town do you?
Personally I'd prefer it be away from downtown to avoid crowding. But not too far from a port-a-pottie... patrick _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Visit the Photo Gallery: http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php
