Great to know, thanks! No, the person I spoke with didn't know much about telescopes. I think he said that was the only Inkley's that had telescopes on display, so that makes sense. I'll stop by again or call. I think the nearest full dealer is Teton Telescopes. They're right on my way to Yellowstone next week. -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Kim Sent: Wednesday, July 15, 2009 9:10 PM To: 'Utah Astronomy' Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Telescope dealers I know you said that you tried Inkley's on State Street, but did you speak directly with Bill Cowles? Bill is a SLAS member, runs the astronomy department, and can probably give you as good a price as you're likely to get anywhere but ebay or astromart. Bill had surgery recently and may not be in until next week, but give them a try anyway. Kim

Actually I have sold some stuff on Astromart in the past, and there are often good things there. I know this hobby works better via mail order due to the limited number of customers. Right now I'm trying to get something for a trip next week; it's probably too late without paying exhorbitant shipping charges. I had the benefit (or curse) of previously living just minutes from two of the largest stores.
I'm not sure if I'll get a real refractor or something cheap like the ST80. I want something lightweight, and most of the good ones are pretty hefty (for a lightweight tripod). I was surprised Clark didn't have any ST80s; lots of dobs though.
