They didn't form under Lake Bonneville, they are the top of mountains almost buried under debris washed from the nearby mountains and the muds from Bonneville and preceeding lakes. The one in Skull Valley has some interesting fossils in the rocks. If I'm reading the map right the rock on the way to SPOC is called Adobe Rock Bill B. map: http://nrwrt1.nr.state.ut.us/quads/q024/pq1316.gif On Mar 29, 2005, at 4:43 PM, Canopus56 wrote:

As you drive down UT36 from the freeway about two football fields before the second light (Mills Junction), there is geologic formation on the east side of the road. For lack of better a name, it looks like a castle butte but is about 30-50 feet high. There is a similar formation on the west side of the road to Dugway, a few miles south of I-80 and in the middle of Skull Valley.
What is the local name for the mini-"castle" on the east side of UT36?
What are these formations and how did they get formed out in the middle of bays in old Lake Bonneville?
Inquiring minds want to know.
