I’m glad he caught my mistake. I try to be precise. I think I posted that on the weekend so I should have been more alert and less sleep-deprived. I get to sleep in until 05:00 on the weekends. That my mind is fading doesn’t surprise me, everything else is, why should it be any different? Lately, mowing my lawn seems to be a physical and intellectual ordeal. Are you going to Bryce Canyon in June? Maybe I’ll see you there? Dave

Hmm, maybe Joel is an English teacher purist or a nit-picker :) Embarrassed to say I didn't catch shadow versus silhouette and it appears no one else on this board did either. Maybe we are all just so connected we can finish other poster's sentences :)

Very cool. However I would point out that silhouette is probably the word you are looking for as it is very hard to cast a shadow on the sun. On Sat, May 14, 2016 at 8:59 AM Dave Gary <davegary@me.com> wrote:
Larry and Dan were commenting on the relative sizes of the shadows of Mercury and Venus as cast on Sun’s surface during their respective transits. I found my Venus transit photos from 5 June 2012 and put three of these photos beside the two photos I posted for the recent Mercury transit. The size difference of the shadows is quite pronounced. Enlarge each photo for full effect.
