Hi Folks, I've arranged with Greg Thornock (science teacher in Eureka) to take some telescopes to Tintic High School in Eureka for a star party on the evening of the 24th (so far the weather forecasts look promising). I know it's a long way for many of you in SL County, but if anyone else would care to come, I'd be delighted to have you. Greg expressed some particular interest in galaxies and we should have easy views of M31 and M33--beyond that, come along and show off your favorite October objects! At this point, I'm planning to take my 4" refractor. I might have my 10" RC Cass, that I'm in the process of assembling, ready for an inaugural substantial observing session, but I'm not counting on having the time to finish it up between now and then. Depending upon whether others would like to join me or not, I may try to take my 6" f/8 reflector and its piece-of-junk mount just to have another eyepiece. If some of you will join me, I will leave the 6" at home and *might* have room for another person and some gear in my minivan (we'd have to try a test load before the trip unless your gear if very compact). I'm in central Orem and could drive north a bit to pick someone up, if that would help. My plan is to arrive some time between 6:30 & 7 pm (I expect it'll take an hour to drive there). We (see, I'm hopeful others will come) will be setting up near the school (exactly where TBD that evening--no prior experience to fall back on as far as best places to avoid glare). Greg reports that the sky is dark there (no surprise) so we'll just see what the situation is when we get there. The school is at 55 E Main (US highway 6) and looks to be very easy to find. If you'd like to join me, please let me know by contacting me off the list and we can coordinate. (Weather looks great for observing this evening and I might not have to work till 10 pm!) John
