We can see the ends of a loop! ________________________________ From: Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> To: utah astronomy utah astronomy listserve <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thu, April 8, 2010 11:34:26 PM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] SPOC Sun parties? Views of the Sun today through the Bogdan refractor with the Daystar HA filter were really great. Exquisite detail all around the limb. Lots of prominences. And lots of surface detail including a small sunspot in the middle of what resembled a lunar crater with ejecta rays. Using the scope with the Daystar was such that Bruce and I were thinking it probably would not be good for groups of public but would be ideal for moderate sized groups of folks who know their way around a telescope. So now we're thinking of maybe an occasional Sun gazing outings for SLAS members and guests on weekend afternoons. Any interest in such things? In addition to looking we also tried some photography. Never did get it to work with attaching the camera to the filter but not too bad using the afocal method (maybe better with practice). Also not bad for terrestrial imaging (in effect the refractor is a 3,360mm telephoto lens). Here's a couple of afocal shots of the Sun: http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/SUN01.JPG And one of the KSL installation on top of the Oquirrhs: http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/KSL01.JPG patrick _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Visit the Photo Gallery: http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php Visit the Wiki: http://www.utahastronomy.com
