I met Jorge last night for the first time and I was very impressed with the simplicity of his equipment and how quickly and easy it was to set up and get results. His mount was Orion powered by a small 12v sitting between the tripod legs. The guidescope was self contained with only a D cell power pack and a wire to the mount. The guide scope was an Orion shorty refractor. The main optic was a Meade schmidt newtonian. And his camera was an off the shelf DSLR with no external attachments and running of it's internal battery. NO LAPTOP. every element was self contained and independantly powered. The whole set up traveled easily in a compact sedan and was set up and running in less time than it takes to assemble a truss tube dob. This setup has an elegant simplicity that even John Dobson would appreciate. And the result speaks for itself. Well, I guess I just like punishment and the sky looks even better for tonight so I'm heading back to Pit n Pole tonight. If anyone is interested in joining me there feel free to come out and see the Summer Milky Way out in its splendor! I'm chasing Sir William's 400 objects tonight since I did the grand Messier tour last night along with a few Sir William 400 thrown in. The 14 and the 10 last showed SN2011dh quite well. It is fading but still visible. The Veil Nebula was fantastic in the 27mm Panoptic and overall, I am excited about tonight. I forget to steal a look at the North American Nebula last night so I'll try that tonight with binoculars. No humidity tonight and temsp in the 60's til around 3:00a.m. when they dip into the 50's.
