Back in 1985 my parents, as a Christmas present, gave me (a 15 year old with an endless amount of curiosity about the universe) a telescope purchased from a local amateur astronomer. It was a 10" f/ 5 Cave Astrola German Equatorial with a badly out-of-round tube and a too-long focuser which vignetted quite a bit of light. My new best friend Dave Bernson helped me design and build a Dobsonian Mount around the beautiful primary...a little brother modeled after his 12.5" f/5 Dob. We finished it just in time for our trip to Island In the Sky to see Halley's Comet....the maiden voyage. Since then it has seen trips to Cedar Breaks, Bryce, Wolf Creek, Elizabeth Ridge, Rush Valley, Riverside, City of Rocks, Capitol Reef, and countless local star parties. This last year, I'm afraid, she was decommissioned and I will be using the 10" Cave mirror as the primary for a prototype design for a larger scope in the 14" to 16" range. To that end, I am offering the very stable and durable (if not a bit over-built) mount to anyone who has the where-with-all to put it to good use. Included would be pretty much everything you see (sans optics, repeat, No Optics) on the page I've put together at: http://homepage.mac.com/dlbennett/PhotoAlbum28.html Ground board with Vibram 'feet', 1 1/2" rocker, tube assembly including 2" Novak-type helical focuser, 2" secondary and spider, vinyl dust covers, yellow transport cover, and possibly a mirror box depending on what usability it might offer you. Again, no optics. Piece the thing out but I do need the room for the incoming project. Write or call or message me from the site if you are interested.
