Yes, and you'd be surprised, even in retirement, what can pop up and get in the way of what I'd like to do, like astronomy. -- Joe --- On Fri, 4/29/11, Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> wrote:

I was recently divorced and am pretty much broke. I'll have you call my creditors and you can try that line on them. I doubt you'll get very far.
I am also a manager at the company I work for, in a salaried position, that essentially requires me to be "on-call", especially in today's ecconomic climate. I'm not in a position to dictate when I will or won't work. I don't have a "cookie-cutter" job, by any means. We respond to customer needs and if we don't, they go to our competitors.
I do not try to impress anyone but the people I love and care for. I still have a daughter in college and that's not free in this country, at least. Responsibility takes precedence over fun, every time. THAT is the wisest use of my time. Your mileage may vary, but that's the way my life works. I'm not sacrificing anything. The sky will still be there when I'm in a position to devote time to it. I lived for astronomy club activities decades ago, but now it's a necessarily low priority. I'm sure it will move up in the rankings again, in time.
Thanks for the advice, but it's not practical at the moment.
Now, get back to your rose smelling. It's a good bargain, as you point out. ;o)

It's easier to make make do with less money than to make do with less time. Your life is what's happening at the moment. Use the "now" wisely and you will have no regrets. You may occasionaly have to give up trying to impress people though. It's a small price but a good bargain.
