For what it is worth. I have had great luck with Starry night pro on my mac. I even have it controlling my Nexstar11 via a bluetooth serial setup from astrocables. I haven't even begun to use all of its features, but I find it very useful for planning and just becoming familiar with the night sky. Guess I am more of a visual person.... Wasn't TheSkyX was released about 2 weeks ago? Does it have telescope control? I looked at it briefly, seemed on a par with the TheSky Student Edition.
Not sure when it was released. I received my copy only a few days ago. However, I've been running TheSky (as opposed to TheSkyX) for Mac for several years.
No telescope control yet (though I believe Voyager offers that) but Software Bisque is rewriting all of their software to universal. I see on their web site that the next version of TheSkyX to be released will have telescope control.
