As one of the OASers that got to attend last night - I wanted to give everyone with SLAS a huge thank you for the SPOC star party. I know a lot of time and energy must have gone into hosting it for us. As Patrick mentioned below - what an incredible way to start the evening - a quadruple rainbow! You guys really must have connections with some powerful folks. <g> This was my first visit to SPOC and I must say you have a beautiful setup! Quoting Darth Vader, "impressive, MOST impressive!" Its obvious that SPOC has required a tremendous amount of dedication. I'll bet its on par or better than what a lot of universities have. The sky didn't exactly want to cooperate but, as Patrick stated, we still had some great views of Saturn, Jupiter, M51, M13, NGC4565, M82, the Cat's Eye nebula (NGC6543), M3, et al. Again - thank you so much, it was a lot of fun and Patrick is right about the advanced training session - it was a great chance to get together and get to know each other better. And only with amateur astronomers will you see the pies, cheesecake, and banana splits after midnight. This will really help me maintain my figure. <g> Clear skies, Dale. ________________________________ From: OAS_News@yahoogroups.com on behalf of Patrick Wiggins Sent: Sat 5/20/2006 5:09 AM To: oas Subject: [OAS_News] SPOC rainbows It was great to see so many members of OAS out at SPOC last night. I must admit that there was a time late yesterday afternoon when I thought the weather would never clear in time but the Clear Sky Clock said it would and it was right. While we were treated to views of many astronomical objects (my favorite was Saturn through the refractor) I wonder if maybe the best view was meteorological. I don't remember ever seeing a quadruple rainbow before. Nor do I remember seeing two rainbows that were far apart in the sky but converged near the ground. Quite a site. http://utahastro.info/temp/RAINBOW01.JPG http://utahastro.info/temp/RAINBOW02.JPG Again, it was fun to have y'all out last night and I hope we'll see more OASers at SPOC in the future.
