Today's NPR SF is blowing my mind -- they have discovered fungi growing (thriving) in Chernoble; they believe that melanin in the fungi allows it to utilize radioactivity much like chlorophyll in plants converts sunlight into energy. Too cool. Biofuels from nuclear waste anyone?
