Thanks Debbie. These were from 60 second subexposures, with roughly 3 minutes total on each color. I didn't spend any time on processing... just mixed the colors at the proper ratio and stretched a little. The 24 Coma image has a nice little galaxy that might be fun to image better with some longer exposures and a little real processing. I would need some type of barlow to split the closer doubles, especially since my AP is only an F/6, although it does pretty well without because of the great optics. The separation on 24 Coma is about 20.3", and based on that image I assume I could split down to a few arc seconds (3-4 perhaps) without a barlow. I may try that some night when the clouds are drifting around and I can't do long exposures. I would guess that the optics on the AP130 could hold up even with a higher powered barlow. The seeing at ALCON was amazing. That dark background really helps for imaging. Great images Tyler! Are these 30 sec exposures? Also, would you use a 2X TeleVue Powermate on the tighter doubles? I'd like to try a few doubles on the old Canon Rebel when we get out of the monsoon season here in Southern Utah. By the way, I got a good split on Antares on June 30th at Bryce. I need a bit of mountain air to split some of these tight doubles. Debbie On Thu, Jul 7, 2011 at 5:31 PM, Tyler Allred <tylerallred@earthlink.net>wrote:
Hi again all. I just added three images to my website that may be of interest to some folks. A few nights before ALCON, I tried imaging some colorful double stars. It was a first for me and my camera, although I have always enjoyed observing doubles. I chose three of my personal favorites: Albireo, Omicron Cygni, and 24 Coma. I picked these because they have stars with widely different colors. The three images are on my website. Be sure to click a couple of times to see the full versions.
Cheers,
Tyler
