I recall a sci-fi story some decades ago, about a crew of explorers from earth, landing their space-ship on a planet of humanoids, where the Savior had recently "departed", just as He had on earth thousands of years before, as told in scripture. The captain put two-and-two together and realized that the Lord was moving from star system-to-star system, and decided to follow, to try and catch up with Him.
One of the crew saw the peaceful, happy attitudes of the people on the planet they were already on, and decided to stay. The captain was incredulous, telling him that he was losing his chance to find his Savior. The crewman declined and in a blatant act of mutiny, stayed. He knew that the spirit of the Lord was with these people, and that was good enough for him.
After the ship took-off again, with the captain in hot pursuit of God, it turned out that of course, the Lord was still there, and they took the crewman to meet Him. The captain was destined to never find Him. Each time he came to a planet where the Lord had been, he would miss Him by a smaller and smaller amount of time, but would never achieve his goal. He wasn't capable of living the Word.
