Way to go Patrick. If I am not mistaken, that helicopter is piston driven and not turbine, is that correct? To get this back on topic, Steve Peterson sent me a shot he got of Comet Jacques. Nice little blue ball against a starry background. Steve, are you going to post the image somewhere for all to see? patrick On 14 Sep 2014, at 09:20, Brent Watson via Utah-Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:
Are you going to get a rotary wing rating now?

I just tried imaging the comet. It is there but even with a long exposure it barely registered so it's probably going to be a difficult visual target.
We need another Comet West.
BTW, I've been going out several times tonight looking for any sign of an aurora. Skies are good enough for me to see the Milky Way. But no sign of any auroral activity.
The latest aurora map shows some activity back east and further north. But not here. http://solar.spacew.com/www/aurora.html

Comet Jacques will be crossing the Summer Triangle and making close passes to some familiar object in the next two weeks.

This weekend even though it's a "full moon" weekend on the SLAS calendar, the moon will not rise until 10pm on Friday night and the sunsets at 7:40. So there is a good dark window in the early evening to catch a glimpse of the comet.
