Sorry Mat, I had to reply to this. How is Alton (or anyone) going to transfer electricity across the Pacific Ocean to China? China is building its own coal fired power plants as fast as possible, with probably a tremendous abundance of nature resources available within their own country, as they haven't been burning coal like the rest of the industrialized world for centuries. Of course, those plants add to air pollution and the global warming problem. However, are you going to deny the Chinese people electricity? We in America can have it but you can't cause it adds to global warming? Opps, I forgot, we are in Utah and there is no such thing as global warming or air pollution (read sad laugh here) The real problem is balancing the demand for electricity and the form in which we produce it against the drain of natural resources and resultant pollution factors. This is not an easy task, for anyone. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mat Hutchings (H USA)" <mat.hutchings@siemens.com> To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sunday, December 4, 2011 10:11:39 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Alton Mine & Clear Views at NP's Isn't the Alton mine destined to meet China's electrical demands? The Alton mine seems destined to meet California's insatiable appetite for electricity.
We spent a total of 10 weeks at te Grand Canyon over a 10 year period.
there were many days you couldn't get a clear picture of the canyon because of air pollution that had migrated from LA. Only after a good rain was the air really clear.
