Jon, I agree that the guy is probably "out to lunch", but I was at a meeting in the late sixties where geologists heckled the speaker who was advocating plate tectonics. We need to make sure we are open minded to all criticisms of current dogma. In the past many prominent scientists, such as Rutherford, have suppressed new ideas that didn't fit their paradigm ("The energy produced by the atom is a very poor kind of thing. Anyone who expects a source of power from the transformation of these atoms is talking moonshine." Ernst Rutherford). -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of stormcrow60@xmission.com Sent: Friday, January 14, 2011 4:51 PM To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Expanding Earth Really Robert? While I may agree there might be a cosmic force that affects the Earth, ie, dark matter, dark energy or what not... the premise of this guys website is to contradict earth plate tectonics and to claim the Earth's surface as we see it today is caused by the expansion of the Earth. If one can believe in todays theories of the expansion of the universe... (let's see the raising of hands folks)... that you use to make your case, then why can't we believe in the theories of geology that prevail today, without introducing some hackneyed theory? I would think most scientists agree with the theory of plate tectonics evem more so than those that agree with the current cosmic expansion theories of the universe. In fact... we see the evidence of plate tctonics all around us. Just look up at the Wasatch Mountains. Anyway... just my two cents worth.
