Best Astro-App for an iPad? No contest. SkySafari. BUT... I see lots of people here talking about SkySafari Pro. I use SkySafari Plus v3.6. Yes, the "Pro" version is the baddest of the bad boys in this field, but the lowly "Plus" version costs a _lot_ less, controls my C11 and C6 via WiFi just fine, and has _never_ failed me when I ask it for information about an object of interest during a star party. Sure, the "Pro" version has 740k deep sky objects, but... really? You _really_ need that? My "Plus" version has "only" 31k deep sky objects (of which maybe 300 are of interest) and "only" 2.5M stars down to magnitude 12. So here's my question to you SF Pro users - when have you ever needed your app to do things that _only_ the Pro version can do? Other must-have astronomy apps for iPad: Luan - best lunar calendar Daylight - hours of daylight/twilight/night display Sunlight - where is the Sun shining right now? Good telescope interface via wifi if you have wifi to your scope. MoonMapPro is an informative program. StarMapPro is good, but the telescope control is limited. It's not, truly, goto in capability. Get SkyWeek Plus and NASA, both free. Star Walk will show you what's up when you hold it up to the section of the sky you're looking at and Observer Pro will tell you what's up to observe with magnitudes, etc. Sky Map and StarMap 3D+ are much like Star Walk. Mars Atlas is nice, as is MESSENGER and Exoplanet. Spacecraft 3D is fun, but you need to print off the terrains for it to work. Planisphere, flyby and MessierList along with pUniverse, Planets, Moon Globe, Gas Giants and Transients round out the list. WolframAlpha is nice for those questions like: "How far is Neptune from Pluto at this moment? What is the mass of Uranus?", etc. What do I use the most? SkySafari Pro and WolframAlpha.
