Stephen Hawking? What about Kip Thorne? He predicted over 30 years ago that the first likely gravitational-wave candidate would be the merger of a binary black hole system. Pretty prescient, I'd say. Dale caught it first, but IMHO the link he provided to an astronomy.com article was probably the most poorly written scientific announcement ever written .
