I heard and read other variations of this as well including substituting "Terrifying" and "Amazing" for horrifying. On Arthur’s old TV show he would use the variation of this phrase with the word Amazing. I'd like to think that is closer to his real thoughts. Personally I don't find anything horrible or terrifying about it, some how I doubt Arthur did either. The universe doesn't seem to stay in any one state for too long. If we are alone in this vast universe I'm sure other intelligent species would come along shortly after intelligent life on Earth blink’s out. Yes, I think there’s other life out there.
