It was several friends. The body's whereabouts is still a secret. I got to know Abbey a little -- he and "Seldom Seen Smith" (Ken Sleight) called me at work from Moab one night to compliment me on an environmental column. Abbey was pretty much plowed. We had a good time. I've also met and talked with him at other events. One of my pictures of him is here, for fellow FB-ers: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1710397780361&set=pb.1850628854.-220... -- Joe ________________________________ From: D P Pierce <starsbirdsglyphs@gmail.com> To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com Sent: Tuesday, July 23, 2013 10:59 PM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Edward Abbey I heard him speak to the Utah Librarians Association. He was hilarious. He complained he was offended because many considered him a country hick. He said he was really a sophisticated writer and intellectual then reached into his back pocket and pulled out a red bandana that was a yard square and spent about a full minute noisily blowing his nose. His book The Monkey Wrench Gang is one of the funniest books I've ever read. Desert Solitaire is another favorite with sometimes eloquent writing. When he died, a Moab friend hauled his body into the desert dumping it into a crevice then covering it with rocks.
