Good question polarizers. They might help but I was basing my search on the fact that the K Clouds are lunar dust from surface impacts and reflect more in the red, also more abundant during solar minimum. I wanted Gary to shoot w/ a 12 yellow, 21 orange and 25 red, we talked about even trying long IR but we don't have a filter like that yet. I look at this attempt as trying to photograph smoke in fog. I had planned on shooting from Haleakala BUT Mauna Kea is so much darker, even during the day. we have excessive light from Kihei/Wailea not to mention Wailuku/Kahului and then Pukalani/Makawao in the Upcountry area. All these places have grown and sky darkness has lost 2 magnitudes, Mauna Kea is still protected and somewhat more distant from smaller population centers. It truly is 'Clearly the Best". aloha Rob
