Hee hee. Well, it was a cool road once! ________________________________ From: William Biesele <bill@biesele.net> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thu, April 1, 2010 9:34:50 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Directions to Wedge Overlook I was cleaning out a bookshelf last week, and found a copy of Stone House Lands, by some young radical, seems like it described the old road. It's paved for only a couple of miles out of Castle Dale, but from then on it's a heavily graded dirt road -- no problem for any car. In the old days, it went through sandy washes and sometimes you'd be in danger of getting stuck, but there's been a hideous amount of roadwork there. -- Joe

Is the road paved all the way there or dirt/gravel?

The best way I know of to get to the Wedge, is to travel south on highway 10 to a point just north of the town of Castledale. At that point the road will be going south but you can see a 90 degree turn to the right as the highway approaches Castledale. You will see a road on the left and a sign that says San Rafael Swell. Take this road and follow the signs to the Wedge. It is pretty easy to find. There is a road that leads there that leaves highway 10 just south of Huntington. This road goes through the town of Lawrence but I don't think it is in as good shape as the one nearer to Castledale and it is also longer off the highway.
Thanks Rodger Fry

The most difficult part of the trip is finding the turn off on Rt 10. There is a sign there but it is very easy to miss at 65 MPH. Does any one remember what the sign says? Otherwise the map you have is quite accurate and the Overlook is actually easy to find, in fact if you go to far you know when go over the cliff.

I've been contacted by a couple of people of how to get to the Wedge Overlook for the 9th and 10th of April. I have given them the map http://slas.us/images/maps/WEDGECEDARMTN.jpg at SLAS but I don't have set directions. Anyone here provide that? My son turns 16 on the 8th, and were celebrating during the day on Saturday so I won't be going to the Wedge, just staying local at either Pit n Pole or Lakeside if weather permits.
