Patrick, I mentioned to many aircraft owners throughout the west that the Beryl Junction airstrip was almost exactly on the center line of the eclipse, and urged them to go. I was the only aircraft there. After I opened my flight plan for the return flight I only heard one other aircraft do the same. It was a 172 leaving Cedar City or South Valley. Now maybe there will be more interest in Rexburg from the corporate jet folks, but I'm netting they'll choose Jackson. It is exactly on center line and the area is much more to the taste of those folks. ________________________________ From: Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 22, 2012 8:10 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] 2017 map And notice that unlike Sunday's eclipse which was so low in the sky, 2017's will start over a third of the way up the sky and finish nearly 2/3 of the way up. That should make for much less worry about how high one's local horizons are. I'm having fun looking really close at the map to see all of the house in Rexburg the centerline will pass directly over. And I can't help but wonder if, like the people of Kanarraville a few years ago, the people in Rexburg today have no idea what they are in for. Not to mention how much air traffic Rexburg's small airport will be having. :) patrick On 22 May 2012, at 10:02, Jared Smith wrote:
My brother lives just 1 mile from the centerline near the Menan Buttes west of Rexburg, Idaho. That's where I (and probably thousands of others) will be.
I ran a simulation of the full eclipse from that location in Stellarium yesterday and got chills watching it. Bring on 2017!

Crazy - the centerline is about 7 miles from my in-laws home in Salem, Oregon.
And they have an unobstructed view of the east.
