It turns out that the Orion and Celestron 100mm ED scopes are not perfect clones. The Celestron scope uses a thread-on focuser, while the Orion is a slip-fit with 3 setscrews. The GSO adapter is not needed at all, to retrofit a GSO or Antares 10:1 focuser to the Orion scope, just order the proper adapter plate. I'll probably machine my own from aluminum or PVC. Thanks Bob. I concur, I own the Orion 100mmED (as well as their 80mmED). I've done side-by-side comparisons with the Orion 80mmED and Televue and the only difference I could detect is that the Orions have just a hint of barely detectable uncorrected color at very high magnifications- near or over the diffraction limit. It manifested itself as a faint purple halo and not all of us present could see it. For the price, I can live with it. At normal viewing magnifications, there is no difference between the Orion ED scopes and Televue apo's.
The reason I'm asking is that I plan to upgrade the focusers on my ED scopes and want to use the GSO adapter.

I don't know for sure but I'm pretty sure they are both made by Synta in China so even if they are not exactly the same they are sure going to be optically similar, which is a good thing. I've looked through a few Orion 100EDs and the optics are very good.
