When we lose the drive to explore in person we might as well give up as a species. I think humans have a remarkable need, probably tied in to some survival instinct, to explore. It isn't the same as looking at views robots take, it's an imperative to actually go somewhere. Maybe that's what the "out of Africa" movement of our distant ancestors was all about, the effort to seek out new habitat. Our insatiable curiosity helps lift us above other earthly life. I don't care that it's expensive; money isn't everything, it's the striving that matters. President Kennedy had his finger on something deep and vital when he said we will go to the moon because it is a difficult challenge. -- Joe
