We were setup on some of the tent pads in Dead Horse Point's campground. There were 7 OASers and their families. A couple of other astronomers had campgrounds but didn't make it down when the weather was so bad. The campground is actually pretty good. If we were real serious about the Messier Marathon we would need to get away from the people a little. I had one young man that had a blast showing his family Jupiter, Saturn and and Moon after I showed him how to use my scope. If I hadn't been so cold, I could have picked up the 10" dob and moved it a couple of feet and the tree wouldn't have been a problem. I just didn't expect the sky to cloud over in under 10 minutes. Next year we are planning to get the group campsite. Hopefully that will make it easier for more people to join us down there. I think this is one of the darkest places that I have observed from. I went to Dead Horse Point last June and set up at this viewpoint overlooking the canyon towards Moab. There was also a bathroom there too. It was a good place to set up except for the few cars that came into the parking lot with their bright car lights. It was so dark there I could easily pick up the dark nebulae in the Milky Way. I didn't have any trees to obscure my view. I think Canyon lands is a wonderful place to observe. I'll go there again when it is not so hot.
