Really interesting analysis, Dave. I would add that strictly from the standpoint of visual observing, the total phase would have uneven illumination in this case. The relatively brighter rim might seem uneclipsed just because of this variation. I've seen that sort of difference even with a deeply eclipsed moon. Sent from my iPhone
