Debbie, Patrick uses what is probably the only way an amateur can be of discovering a supernova. He has programmed his telescope to go to 300 target galaxies a night and take a short exposure of each. Then he compares the photos to his previous views of the same galaxies. In more than 1,000 nights of this grueling work, he has discovered three verified supernovas. Sent from my iPhone
