It may have been 2002 ish when I saw from SPOC pink curtains about 20 degrees high in the north covering most of the northern horizon. Lasted several hours.
I've seen dozens from Utah, and most appear grey to the eye, red on
emulsion-based film. Usually columns, curtains, or streamers. A few were vaguely greenish.
Except for the great display of, what was it, 2002-ish? The last solar max. Every shade in the crayon box, and bright. Pulsating, exploding, incredible.
I agree with Erik, after seeing a few, you can tell if it's the real deal.
