FWIW, I'm on more astronomy, animal rights and aviation lists than I care to count and none allow attachments simply because of the danger of spreading viruses that attachments can pose. Even the SBIG list which specializes in imaging does not allow attachments. As one of U-A's co-admins I can attest to the number of times folks have attempted to hack into this list.
