This list always provides the best advice; After purchasing the #12 lense, I made a couple of phone calls and found a place that had #14s and for $1.50 apiece I bought 3 and framed them individually in some cardboard. By the time I tested them on the naked eye sunspot, it was up at about the 10:00 position on the disk. Bring on the eclipse! Joe Borgione

The difference between a 12 and a 14 is the 14 is safe for looking at the Sun while the 12 is not. I would recommend you NOT use a #12 to view the Sun.

Joe, I have used #12 before, and without any noticable effect. I only used them for VERY short periods of time. I DO NOT RECOMEND USING THEM. I have purchased #14 glass from the welding supply shops around town (US Welding, Gas House, etc.) You would do much better with the #14.
