I saw Brian Greens program, it indicated that Einstein's Theories of Gravitation and Quantum Mechanics have never really jived, hence the continued pursuit of the Grand Unified Theory. Einstein always recognized that Quantum Mechanics does predict faster than light particles.
Alas, what we are getting is not a Grand Unified Theory but just another theory that fails to connect all the forces of the universe.
Just watched Brian Greene's The Elegant Universe. Great explanation of
string theory! It talked in one place about related work being done at Fermilab. At the end of the show it noted the accelerator at Fermilab had been shutdown. I went online to find out more. September 30th was its last day but I couldn't find an explanation as to why. Anybody know?
