When you drop a flag on the map is shows the data for that location. Here is one near Cedar City. C1 - 4 are the Contacts. Note that C4 is after sunset. The date and time are in UT(universal). The blue lines indicate where total eclipse will be visible. The red is the center line. Start of partial eclipse (C1) : 2012/05/21 00:22:31.6 025° 277° Start of annular eclipse (C2) : 2012/05/21 01:31:26.1 011.7° 286.7° Maximum eclipse : 2012/05/21 01:33:42.4 011.2° 287° End of annular eclipse (C3) : 2012/05/21 01:35:58.6 010.8° 287.3° End of partial eclipse (C4) : 2012/05/21 02:37:04.1* -000.4° 296.2° Thanks, David Dunn Software Engineer Sr. SUPERVALU | Salt Lake Hardware Building 155 N. 400 W. 3rd Floor Salt Lake City, Utah 84103 Cell: 801.750.3198 | Home: 801.544.7705 | Office: 801.961.3253 david.dunn@supervalu.com -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Kim Sent: Thursday, February 09, 2012 7:50 AM To: 'Utah Astronomy' Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Eclipse festival I don't see from that page anything that indicates times of specific events (1st contact, 2nd contact, etc.) and I don't know how to use an ephemeris table. The blue lines on the map only indicate the limits of the area wherein maximum eclipse is visible. What are you looking at that shows that 4th contact won't be visible from Utah? Kevin Poe and I were talking about this the other day. Kevin has been using the Photographer's Ephemeris website (http://photoephemeris.com/) for a lot of his calculations. I understood him to say that from here (Bryce) 4th contact occurs when the sun is less than one degree above the horizon. I'll ask Kevin later today if he has specific times/heights above the horizon for each event. BTW, it seems that "maximum eclipse" is the term I've been looking for, but I like "centrality" or "annularity" better. FWIW, for the 5 total solars I've been to everyone was eager to see 1st contact. Really excited to see 2nd contact. Saddened to see 3rd contact and by the time 4th contact rolled around most people had left for the bar. patrick On 08 Feb 2012, at 17:34, erikhansen@TheBlueZone.net wrote:
