Bill,Glad to hear you're looking for opportunities of volunteering in the national parks. I see you've already applied to the Astro VIP program in which I served my first tour at Great Basin last year working with Ranger Kelly Carroll. They have night sky programs on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday nights which I assisted with in addition to public solar viewing during the afternoons. The weather there last year did not favor stargazers however, but hopefully this year will make up for it. I recently learned from Teresa Jiles that the list of parks for those volunteering this year will be available around mid-April. Those in their first year will get to choose their preferences once those volunteers who are returning have chosen their preference. Have you had the phone interview yet? Also, if you haven't already done so, you'll need to complete two free on-line courses through the Eppley Institute for Parks and Public Lands that deals with the history of the parks service, handling public crowds and such. This year will be Great Basin's fourth annual astronomy festival, which will be held September 5,6 and 7th. Would like to invite you to participate there as well with some of the other SLAS members who attend. We also have a fair share of volunteers from the Las Vegas astronomny club. Tom Sevcik
