As I recall this WAS a two part program. They had the chopper pilot, who was sent to recover the capsule and Grissom, on board of the recovery ship. They brought the capsule upon the rolling deck of the recovery ship and then had an EOD team try to disarm the explosive escape hatch devices located in the capsule. The show ended with the Liberty Bell sitting on a flat bed trailer and an interview with Gus Grissom brother. Seen the program a couple times. Excellent underwater footage. I was surprised to see the capsule in almost perfect condition for the amount of time it spent in seawater. Guy Quoting Michael Carnes <michaelcarnes@earthlink.net>:
This one dated back a couple of years, but ended with some great underwater footage of the capsule. Might have been part of what you saw, Guy. There was a nice bit of background about Grissom, who's had something of an unfair rap over the years. I think it may have been "The Right Stuff" which sort of made a goat of him. But obviously NASA thought highly of him since they put him on Apollo 1.
There was a program a year or so ago that covered the search and recovery of the capsule from the oceans floor.

A few days ago, there was a nice 1-hour show on the Science Channel that covered the search for Gus Grissom's capsule. Great show, but incomplete. It only covered the search and discovery, but not the recovery. It felt like half of a two-parter. Did anyone else see it and do you know if there actually was a part 2 that I managed to miss?
