Thanks, Dale. I tried FocusMax and it seemed too complicated compared with MaxIm's autofocus program. My problems are in any or all of these areas, I've decided: most likely, the "fanbelt" between RoboFocus and the telescope's focusing knob is too loose, so I'll tighten it; the size of the "steps" I specified may need to be changed; I've selected the wrong magnitude stars to try it with; or I need to figure how to adjust the backlash feature (related to the first issue, and may not be a worry if the fanbelt is correctly tight). Thanks, Joe ________________________________ From: Dale Hooper <Dale.Hooper@sdl.usu.edu> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 28, 2011 11:25 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] not a very good astrophoto Hi Joe, Are you using FocusMax with your RoboFocus? If so, you may want to consider the FMaxUG on yahoogroups. The authors of FocusMax post updated versions of FocusMax there. They are also great at answering questions. If you are using Windows 7 it's very likely that you will want to use the new version. Clear skies, Dale.

Thanks, Troy! I had a lot of trouble last night -- apparent turbulence in the upper atmosphere, inadequate focusing, poor telescope balancing. It doesn't pay to skimp on any step. I still haven't been able to make my RoboFocus autofocus. Best wishes, Joe

Looks awesome Joe. That's still leaps and bounds better than what I could do.
