Why don't you Google earth it? I did for Kannarravile. The town butts up against the mountains to the east, but the west looked pretty good. In addition, there are two roads leading north and south out of Kanarravile that could accommodate a lot of people. You don't have to be right in town do you? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Patrick Wiggins" <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, September 8, 2011 12:13:15 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Annular ecclipse On 07 Sep 2011, at 23:02, D P Pierce wrote:
I think Kannarraville might be a zoo. 2 or 3 thousand observers would be a mess in a town of only a few hundred. If you zoom in on the map in the NASA link and move west the center line follows the main road for about 20 miles just north of Enterprise.
Yeah, I have to admit that I'm nervous that Kanarraville might not be able to accommodate everyone and having a second place to send folks would be helpful. I see the centerline passes right through Newcastle and then tracks right along highway 56 for several kilometers as it leaves Newcastle. Lots of room for lots of people. Though a surveyor would have to check the horizon in the direction of the eclipse to make sure it is low enough (after I post this I'm going to email that suggestion to one of the folks with the Cedar City Tourism Bureau I've been in contact with). patrick _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Visit the Photo Gallery: http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php
