I read that the Air Force recently declassified data they have gathered from satellites and they reported a meteor explodes in the atmosphere at least once a year with a yield of several kilo tons. When they first noticed them some suspected illegal nuclear testing.
Steve,
I think we were all excited to hear the news. For me, if it did turn out the be an actual impact, it would mean people might actually start to consider the very real possibility of a cataclysmic impact and, of course, get them to consider their place in the universe and the possibilities for the future.
However, when I saw the photo and the perfect crater, I immediately had doubts. Ballistic objects (Like bullets, mortars, etc) rarely leave anything so perfectly circular.

Thanks Steve,
Not to be a critic of the critics...but the reasons were "it was too neat", and "rocks that big usually don't hit earth"
Maybe they should test the material before jumping to conclusions. The "Hoaxers" did a great job on the crater in my opinion. Looks very plausible.
It may be rare for rocks that big to hit...doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
Be interesting to see if they later determine it was not a hoax lol.
