Hi Friends, after Patrick sent out his latest News, I checked the item about Mars, then the raw images the rovers have been sending back. Among the latest was the one whose URL I'm posting below. It's an eerie and somehow beautiful Mars view, and I thought some of my fellow red planet nuts might enjoy seeing it. I've been pondering why the exposed rock seemd to conform to the shape of the dune-like material. Also, inside Eagle Crater where Opportunity landed, the famous rock ledge on the crater side slopes down with the crater. I think that wouldn't happen if these formations were the top of a deep, hard layer of rock. Instead, I am wondering if loose material below the rock may deform, allowing a thin layer of rock to shift into rougnly the same contours as the sand.
