Second spam attack in two months?
There was another one? I don't remember that one. Successful attacks on the list and gallery have been made very difficult as I've set both up such that when one attempts to register, the request goes to the administrators (I think there are three of us) for approval. In the case of the list even once they are approved they still can not post directly to the list, rather their posts are moderated (first go to the administrators for approval). After an appropriate post proving they are real people the moderation is removed. In the case of the gallery I always reply to an application for an album by emailing the requestor and wait for a reply before allowing them on. While that seems to have kept spammers off the list and gallery proper I had forgotten about the Comments section. Weird thing is, if you've ever tried to post a comment you've seen that in order for your comment to go through you have to read and reenter a series of numbers. That was supposed to keep spambots from doing their thing. So in the case of our gallery either some spammer was taking the time to go through an read and reenter the access codes or someone has come up with a spambot that can do that.
Patrick, I seem to be unable to post any new photos with thumbnails. Although the base photo will load, whenever there is a request to also create a thumbnail, the load process errors out and locks up the album. Don't know if it is just me. - Kurt
Did this just start last night / this morning? I made a few other access changes then that might have messed things up... :( Let me know and if that's the case I'll go back and reset those options. patrick
