...Chuck, i just realized that I can convince my brain to see receding craters in the image using either the cross-eyed or the relaxed-gaze method. That is only true for true stereo pairs and not the 'random dot' stereograms, ie, Magic Eye... I think it's much like the cube illusion...you can see the cube two different ways:
