I used to drive that road frequently, I thought they had a temporary road in under a year. I imagine that it was a much higher priority than 14 though. It was open well before the project was completed.
Eric, it took UDOT several years to complete their new road up the
backside of Billy's mountain. The railroad had 2 tunnels dug and the tracks back in operation before UDOT even moved a piece of earth. 73, lh

The slide on the road from Provo to Price was much larger, I am betting it will be open by then.
I am thinking wether or not Cedar Breaks is open by then will be the issue, sounds like you could still get to Cedar Breaks via Long Valley Junction.
I have taken that road so many times, I don't think what road it is. It's
just the road to Cedar Breaks to me. I checked Google Earth - YIKES SR 14 is MY road. Thanks so much for the heads up!! I realize the slide is serious, but that is a major route from Cedar City to Cedar Breaks and other locations. I can't imagine that they won't work hard to clear it quickly (i.e., as fast as they can) I can't remember specifically mile marker 8, but that must be where it really starts to climb, near the top. That is going to be bear to clear.

The slide hit at mile 8 up Cedar Canyon. Follow the signs to Brian Head resort then go south to Cedar Breaks if the road is open. It all depends on the snowpack. I saw patches of snow up at Cedar Breaks in July of this year.

You could also use SR-143 from Panguitch thru Cedar Breaks and Parowan.
