Just what we need, real scientists adding fuel to the 2012 Mayan calendar bruhaha. I intend to sacrifice a male virgin (if I can find one) and watch the plieades culminate at zenith. Then if they continue on to the west, the binding of the years will be complete (as in every 52 years). We either get wiped out or good to go for another 52 years. My guess is we are good to go and that sweet red giant will remain. The worse thing that could happen is we lose the well defined shape of Orion. Now that would be a major disappointment. ----- Original Message ----- From: "M Wilson" <astro_outwest@yahoo.com> To: "Utah astronomy blog" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 31, 2011 6:27:23 AM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] A Second Sun for Us?
