I know what you mean, Joe. I tried to capture it this last weekend and had no luck with the equipment. I’ll try this weekend, weather permitting. I won’t be at Bryce this year (it’s this weekend, right?). I’m still sleeping in a recliner and don’t want to sleep in some chair at Ruby’s Inn. Go figure. To be honest, I couldn’t figure what was going on with the equipment. I’ve narrowed it down to operator error, but on questioning the operator he said he doesn’t have a clue what’s going on. Yes, Patrick captured a great photo. I went out last night to try Pan-STARRS one more time, since I've seen such impressive views of it lately. I've decided it must hate me -- it was a dismal failure. First my flashlight batteries ran out and I didn't have good replacements, so ended up doing some fixing by way of the light of my cell phone screen. Then my SBIG camera did some very strange things -- I'm hoping it's not ruined. I went to the car for the rest of the night at something like 2:30 without any photos. -- Joe

Even if it's not perfect by your standards, it's still pretty doggone impressive! Great work by Patrick and Joe!

Hi Friends, I accepted Patrick's challenge to assemble a color photo from clear, red, green and blue exposures he made recently of Comet Pan-STARRS. Here's the result. However, I'm not convinced I got the color balance right. -- Joe
