True, and I love all of you...almost. -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of erikhansen@thebluezone.net Sent: Wednesday, March 21, 2012 10:29 AM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Bob Taylor on radio now (Saturday 6-7 pm)
Amateur Astronomers are an eclectic bunch, in my opinion that adds to the appeal. It is a hobby 1st and foremost.
I know this is an old thread, but I've been away from the list for a few
days and I beg your indulgence.
In 1991 when I was SLAS Prez, I took a few calls about the eclipse trip that SLAS put together for La Paz, Baja, Mexico. The calls were always couched like this: Question 1: "So, wasn't flying to Mexico to see a total eclipse a rather nerdy thing to do?" Question 2: "Do you believe in UFO's?"
Then there was the call I took from a radio station in Great Britain about the (in)famous bowling ball experiment. "Fringe" does seem to fit us well.

To err is human...... anyway be patient with Astrologers who may come to SPOC. Probably a good thing it was not a call in program who knows what questions would have been asked. Fake Moon Landings or UFO abduction?
It will be interesting to see if this increases "fringe" at Star Parties, of course outsiders may consider us fringe (nerds).
