I'm not sure about that...I don't know too many organisms that evolved wheels. Dan On Aug 31, 2011, at 4:55 PM, Rodger C. Fry wrote:
Patrick,
Millions of years of evolution is more effective than man's ability to engineer and build an effective machine for transportation be it in the air or sea.

Ok, totally off topic but since we are telling fun animal stores I'll mention that several years ago I was working on my glider license over the Heber Valley. I was in a thermal feeling pretty cocky about how much altitude I was gaining when my instructor pointed down and to the left. There circling below us was a hawk soaring in the same thermal.
It didn't take him long to catch up with me and then he just sort of stopped climbing just off my left side. I swear he was looking at me with a look something like "Amateur!". And then with a slight flap of his wings he continued in his climb leaving me (and my chuckling instructor) far below as he disappeared high above us.

I was actually driving back from Lakeside one night, on the long road that leads to the freeway, and had an owl swoop down and 'lead' my truck for a while. It just coasted in front of my truck for a bit and then flew off to the right. That was very cool to see.
