How was PnP last night? -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Jay Eads Sent: Thursday, April 15, 2010 2:25 AM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Anyone been to pit n pole recently? I should mention also, that I usually take a 1996 Nissan Altima to observing and my Altima never touches bottom at the Pit. On Wed, Apr 14, 2010 at 5:53 PM, Jay Eads <jayleads@gmail.com> wrote:
At Pit n Pole there is still a LARGE dip when you turn the corner to head down to the pole and the pit. To avoid it, just go to the left slowly and you'll have a bump or two but nothing like the big dip. I am probably heading out to observe there until around 1:00a.m. so I'll park away and down so I don't disturb anyone when I leave. Then again, maybe Joe doesn't want me around after what happen last time . . .
Current Conditions:
Temp: 60 Dew Point 21 Relative Humidity 22% Wind: out of the south at 9
Should be pretty good there tonight if the wind dies down.

Hi Chuck, Thanks -- my answers are I don't know. Hey, as El Presidente, why don't you set a date for an L&O feast? Best wishes and wish me luck tonight, Joe

Joe, out of curiosity, are you using a 4-cycle generator? (Quieter) Also, are you using a larger generator than you need? Have you calculated the total system draw?
I have also looked into after-market automotive-style mufflers for generators. They can quiet them down considerably. Most generators come with minimial, barely functional mufflers.

Hi Jo, When I went there last month for my disaster, I didn't notice anything funky about the road. But I drive a Jeep and maybe that's why. Anyway, I'll probably go there tonight. If you go too, hope you don't mind my generator noise or computer screen. Best wishes, Joe

We were wondering how the road was. We have not been there for years, and way back then, we had some problems with a really big dip in the road. I think it was where the turn off to the actual Pit 'n pole from the first dirt road was. We are pulling a trailer, and our Subaru does not have real high clearance, so I was wondering if others have noticed what shape the road is in these days
Thanks, Jo
