Kim, some kind of trek! We did see a number of motorcycles, both coming and going. Not big harleys, but the smaller off-road types. Somewhere around 10 years ago, I made probably the most interesting sales call I have ever made. Got into a UP pickup in Ogden and drove out towards the present causeway across the Lake and got on the "high rail" and rode across the water. We had to make frequent stops, either to inspect their new communications system, or to get off the rail to let an oncoming train pass. They use old style double reed copper relays to show the trains on a board in Ogden, and then, on probably a series of boards in Omaha, that show the position of every train in the UP system. One interesting view was of a barge salvaging, by pulling, the old wooden trestle poles from the bottom of the Lake. We ended up on the West edge of the Lake, having passed Gov Norm's pumps. Been there too, but that is another story which contains details of Dan and I, with State Engineers, watching (and listening) to the Air Force bombing the side of a mountain perhaps 10 or 15 miles away. What a sight! 73, lh On 9/10/2012 9:04 AM, Kim wrote:
I have had some experience with both "observing" at the sun tunnels and driving the old Central Pacific RR grade, which was eventually abandoned after construction of the Lucin Cutoff.
